Spring is located off I45 twenty miles north of Houston in northern Harris county. The area was originally inhabited by the Orcoquiza Indians. In the mid-1840s German immigrants, most notably Carl Wunsche and Gus Bayer, settled in the Spring area and began farmning. Other notable markers include the Goodyear airship America was based near Spring until the early 1990’s.
As the Houston suburbs expanded northwest, many residential areas grew up around Spring. In 1980 the Old Town Spring Association was formed. Today, Old Town Spring has become a tourist attraction with over eighty boutique shops.
Spring Independent School District encompasses more than Spring and the estimated population of the school district is 75,000. The estimated population in 2014 was 54,000
